What's confirmed about the gameplay

Rockstar has shown GTA 6 in two trailers, official announcements, the 26-minute Extended Look of August 27, 2026 with the first official gameplay, and the launch trailer of October 15, 2026. Here we separate what's confirmed from what's still open.

Two protagonists: Jason and Lucia

• Confirmed

You play as Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Their shared story in the state of Leonida, around Vice City, is the common thread. Who the two are, and which other characters Rockstar has introduced, is on the characters page.

• Shown in the Extended Look

You switch between Jason and Lucia. How freely that works in the open world is still open.

Graphics and tech

According to Rockstar, the Extended Look was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. The video shows a clear technical leap: highly detailed lighting, believable characters, dense traffic, crowds of people and changing weather. Rockstar has not put concrete technical details, such as ray tracing or frame rates, into numbers.

Combat, police and wanted level

• Open

Rockstar hasn't described yet how combat, the police and the wanted system work in detail. We don't use details from retailer listings or leaks.

A living world and the in-game phone

A smartphone with in-game social media is a series tradition. How Rockstar handles the phone, random events and the world's reactions in GTA 6 will only show after release. You can already find the locations on the interactive map and in the regions of Leonida.

03Game world

The game world: Leonida and Vice City

GTA 6 is set in the fictional US state of Leonida, which clearly evokes Florida. At its heart is Vice City, widely read as Rockstar's Miami.

• Reported

Size: According to Game Informer (September 29, 2026), Rockstar developer Aaron Garbut says Leonida is the biggest map Rockstar has built and roughly twice the size of the GTA 5 map. There is no official area in square miles or kilometers (as of October 25, 2026). More under how big the GTA 6 map is.

Sources: Game Informer (paywalled), as reported by Dexerto

• Shown in the Extended Look

Interiors: lots of enterable interiors, from apartments to bars and clubs. There is no official number.

• Confirmed

Regions: six areas, Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Mount Kalaga, Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia.

For an overview of all areas, see the regions of Leonida page.

04100%

100% progress and completion

A classic GTA lives on 100% completion: checking off every collectible, side activity and hidden spot. That's exactly what findleonida.com is built for.

• The interactive map already has a progress tracker: tap what you've found, check it off, done.
• Your progress is saved locally in your browser, with no sign-up and no account.
• Which categories count toward 100% will only be known after release.

05Official book

Is there an official GTA 6 strategy guide?

Not announced so far. As of October 25, 2026, neither Rockstar Games nor a publisher has announced an official printed guide book, strategy guide or collector's guide for GTA 6. Rockstar publishes official GTA 6 news on the Rockstar Newswire.

Third-party publishers do offer GTA 6 guides, partly as pre-orders that ship after release. Whether they are licensed by Rockstar isn't clear. As of October 25, 2026, no official guide has been announced.

Careful when shopping online: whether a book's content matches the finished game can't be checked before release. Since 2025 there have been several reports of AI-generated “guides” on Amazon with no real content. Our advice: don't spend money on a “guide book” before November 19.

GTA 6 guide book as a PDF or for free?

There is no official PDF either. The free alternative is this page: the interactive map with its 100% tracker, the location categories and the guides work right in your browser without signing up, even on your phone next to the console. Verified locations and solutions will only be added after release.

06Separate from the book: the game itself

Pre-order the game itself

This is about GTA 6 itself, not a guide book. The game has been available to pre-order since June 25, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, as a Standard and an Ultimate Edition. Prices are shown in your PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.
