The game world of GTA 6
GTA 6 Regions: the six confirmed areas of Leonida, from Vice City to Mount Kalaga
GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional US state that clearly evokes Florida. So far Rockstar has confirmed a big city, an island chain, a swamp, a coastal town, sugar country and a mountain wilderness.

Six places, six personalities
Each region reminds us of a part of Florida and has its own section of our preview map. Click through to a region's page for everything Rockstar has officially shown about it so far. Further down: how big the map is and how much of it is Florida.

What Rockstar says about the six regions
The official GTA VI website has a short text on each region. Here is the gist.
- Vice City: Rockstar's title is “Everything in Excess.” According to Rockstar, the city is still America's capital of sun and fun, with Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha Wocka flea market and VC Port. More on Vice City.
- Leonida Keys: The “Gateway to Paradise” is a tropical island chain with a casual dress code and loaded bars. It sits right on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and most dangerous waters in America. More on the Leonida Keys.
- Grassrivers: According to Rockstar, the alligators are the best-known attraction of the wetlands. Among the mangroves, though, there are deadlier predators and stranger discoveries. More on Grassrivers.
- Port Gellhorn: Rockstar calls the town Leonida's forgotten coast: cheap motels, shuttered attractions and empty strip malls. The advice: get on a dirt bike and keep an eye on your wallet. More on Port Gellhorn.
- Ambrosia: In the heart of Leonida, the Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs. Almost everything else, according to Rockstar, comes from the local biker gang. More on Ambrosia.
- Mount Kalaga: The national landmark on the northern border offers hunting, fishing and off-road trails. The surrounding forests are home to hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals. More on Mount Kalaga.
Who lives where
Rockstar ties some characters to a region. Jason Duval works for smugglers in the Keys, according to Rockstar, and Brian Heder has been in business there for decades. We therefore list Jason's friend Cal Hampton under the Keys as well. Rockstar calls Boobie Ike a Vice City legend. Dre'Quan Priest has his eye on the city's music scene, and the duo Real Dimez is signed to his label. For Lucia Caminos, Rockstar names the Leonida Penitentiary without saying where it is. The bank robber Raul Bautista is not tied to any place. Everything known about these characters is on the characters page.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
According to Game Informer's cover story of September 29, 2026, Rockstar developer Aaron Garbut says Leonida is the biggest map Rockstar has built “by some degree” and roughly twice the size of the GTA 5 map, that is, Los Santos plus Blaine County. Vice City alone is about twice as big as Los Santos, according to reports on conversations with Rockstar North.
Rockstar has not given an area in square miles or kilometers, and the reports don't say whether “twice the size” includes water. Figures circulating online are fan estimates. As of October 25, 2026.

Where does GTA 6 take place? Is it based on Florida?
Rockstar calls Leonida a fictional US state, with six places and areas: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Rockstar has said little about real-world models. According to The New York Times, Rupert Humphries of Rockstar North says the story shows all parts of life in Miami and South Florida. And according to reports on the Game Informer cover story, the team scouted places including the Everglades, the Keys, Jacksonville and Ocala for the map.
Vice City as Miami and Leonida as Florida: that is the common reading, and ours too, but Rockstar has not published a map of the game. As of October 25, 2026.

All regions on one map
The preview map shows Leonida with filters, search and a progress tracker. Verified locations will be added after release.
All information is based on trailers, screenshots and texts officially published by Rockstar Games. Fan speculation and leaks are deliberately left out.
