What Rockstar says about Port Gellhorn
Rockstar introduces Port Gellhorn under the title “Live Hard,” and the first sentence says it all: “This is Leonida's forgotten coast.” Cheap motels, shuttered attractions and empty strip malls are not bringing the tourists back. But in the once-popular vacation town a new economy has sprung up, fueled by cheap malt liquor, painkillers and energy drinks from the truck stop. Rockstar's closing advice: get on a dirt bike and keep an eye on your wallet.
That makes Port Gellhorn the opposite of Vice City: no glamour, no postcard, but a place that lives off what is left once the tourism is gone.
What the official images show
Five official images show Port Gellhorn, almost all of them at night or in half-light:
- Motel with vacancies: A motel at night, the “Vacancy” sign lit up. Vacant rooms, apparently, are not in short supply here.
- Grow room in the back: Two men stand in a room under grow lights, one leaning on a shovel, the other with a baseball bat over his shoulder.
- Handoff at the car window: A woman leans into an open car window and hands a package to a man in the back seat.
- Cabaret club: Night outside a club whose neon signs advertise “Cabaret.” A few people hang around the entrance, one of them pushing a shopping cart.
- Campfire: People sit around a fire; next to them a man leans against a pickup while a woman puts a finger to his lips.
What grows under the lights and what is in the package, Rockstar does not say. Together with the “new economy” from the official text, the direction is pretty clear, though. Port Gellhorn was also part of the official location screenshots Rockstar released in May 2025.
Port Gellhorn in real life: what stands for what
Rockstar has not explicitly equated Port Gellhorn with a real place. But a few references are so clear that we spell them out here. This is our reading, not a confirmation.
| In GTA 6 | Real-world counterpart |
|---|---|
| “Leonida's forgotten coast” | The “Forgotten Coast” in Florida's northwest, between Mexico Beach and St. Marks, including Apalachicola and Port St. Joe |
| Painkillers as an industry | Florida's “pill mills” around 2010 |
| Cheap motels, empty strip malls | Old vacation towns on Florida's Gulf Coast |
The Forgotten Coast is a real name: it refers to a quiet, barely developed stretch of coastline in the Florida Panhandle. Since 1992 the term has even been a registered trademark of the Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce. Rockstar flips the name around: Leonida's forgotten coast is not untouched but left behind.
The painkillers have a real background too. Around 2010, Florida was considered the center of the so-called pill mills, pain clinics that prescribed opioids with almost no oversight. According to the DEA, in 2010, 90 of the 100 doctors who bought the most oxycodone nationwide were in Florida. After tougher laws, by the end of 2012 there was not a single one left.
Where Port Gellhorn lies, Rockstar has not shown on any official game map yet. On our preview map we placed the town on the Gulf Coast in the northwest, matching the Forgotten Coast in Florida's northwest. That is an estimate, not a confirmation.
What you can do in Port Gellhorn
Officially there is only one recommendation so far: get on a dirt bike. Rockstar says so word for word, along with the advice to keep an eye on your wallet. The images add a motel, a club and evenings at the campfire. Whether you can do, buy or experience something at these places, Rockstar has not shown yet. We'll add it here as soon as it is confirmed. Which vehicles Rockstar already names are listed under vehicles.
Since October 8, 2026, a radio station for the area is known as well: Back Country Radio plays country and, according to Rockstar, broadcasts into Grassrivers, to Port Gellhorn and beyond. More under radio stations.
